permalinkLong sigh... - Tuesday, Jul 13 2004, at 5:49 pm (more blogging, excuses, storytelling)

Blogger suffers burnout.

Don't worry, it's not me. Stories need to be told, and so I'll tell them one by one.

My blogmind is just waking up again.

permalinkWelcome to Backlog Week! - Monday, Nov 10 2003, at 2:49 pm (more blogging, excuses, fury)

So there are things I keep meaning to post, but never get around to. Some are a few weeks old, others may have been sitting in the hopper for a year. This week is Backlog Week, and now all that stuff is going to get posted! (The stuff I've finished and just haven't posted, that is. I still have projects that need to be implemented, of course.)

Okay, three full days of stuff, and photos from each. I'll be doing a lot of writing, both on the blog, and corresponding, this evening, but I just couldn't stand the all-tan bar for another few hours, so I'm posting this. :-)

permalink"I'm Gonna Blog Soon" Blog - Sunday, Mar 23 2003, at 10:14 pm (more excuses, photo, travel, vacation)

Karen and I went to Magic Mountain yesterday, rode many rides, including a few very fun new coasters. I want to blog, but I feel my next post should be the long post explaining exactly what happened, the events leading up to my deciding not to go to China, the inner torment before, during, and after that decision, and what's happening now.

However, we're just about to go and see "View from the Top" so I'll probably work more on that blog post tonight and tomorrow morning, though later tomorrow Karen and I are visiting the Getty Center.

I hope everyone's doing well. I've got email access here, so by all means email me if you like.

Till I write more, here's a gallery of pictures, mostly from Magic Mountain, and one from the Sherman Oaks Galleria:

Worked through the night last night, and have a lot to do for tonight and tomorrow. Sorry, my poor, neglected baby blog...

On the brighter side I spent last night coding my first 100% CSS site, eschewing tables completely. It gives me headaches, but I know it's the way to go.

Stuff to share soon... Oh, and I need yinz help with a survey. I'll post the word doc here later tonight. I'd love it if you could d/l it and fill it out.

Cellphone battery dead, charger 50 miles away, staying over with Ammy and Rick tonight, back to Karen and Crystal's tomorrow. I'll have sporadic email access, and will have a working phone again on Sunday.

So if you're trying to reach me, I've got a bit of a longer turnaround via email, and none via voicemail. You can call Ammy's cell if you're someone who's likely to want to reach me.

If not, expect new content before the end of the weekend. Can we say multimedia?

permalinkMinor Monday Modifications - Monday, Dec 16 2002, at 1:23 am (more excuses, fury)

For the nitpicky, I added a whole bunch of items to the 'look ahead' calendar (which at the moment I'm using as my main calendar, keeping me reminded of what I'm doing when), and I changed teh date readout there, so it says soomething intelligent like '1/12" instead of '28 days'.

Oh, and I renewed a promise to actually fix the ugly comments page that I promise to fix several hundred times a day (that is, every time someone looks at a post's comments, where it says "I promise I'll fix this ugly heap soon."

If I fix it right, then there will be a lot to like about the new functionaly beyond a paint-job. Since i don't have anything planned tomorrow except lunch with Karen and dancing in the evening, I may just have the chance to fix it right.

permalinkSleep to Blog - Monday, Sep 16 2002, at 3:48 pm (more blogging, excuses)

(with apologies to Fiona Apple)

Blogging (for me) is tidal. There are times when every little thought gets blogged (had pizza today. It was good, but not enough sauce), and there are times when Fury turns into a more 'traditional' web log, full of external links, and devoid of internal epiphanies...

Sometimes it's not that things are slow internally, it's the 'if you can't do it right, don't do it at all' mentality. Every story requires back-story, until the task is just too daunting.

Don't worry. The good news is that when I start blogging every little thing, it makes it easier to blog other little things, because the foundation of context is already laid.

so I'm playing intramural volleyball in 45 minutes. We lost our first game, but we'll see what two hours of practice (and literally swollen forearms) will garner me and my teammates tonight.

And don't worry, blogging 'every little thing' doesn't mean compromising the sanctities of friendship (whatever I mean by that).

At any rate, the tide is turning. Sure I can say that, but just watch.

permalinkGreat Weekend - Monday, Sep 9 2002, at 7:33 am (more blogging, excuses, travel)

I'm really starting to settle in to Pittsburgh. Not that I don't miss home, but the apartment's really come together nicely. I'm making a lot of friends, and even the weather's been cooperating, with humidity in the 30s instead of the 80s. Even so, it's supposed to be 90 degrees out today.

So in addition to the eternal classwork, this is a week of web consolidation (where have we heard that before?). As soon as I tidy my apartment, I'll shoot some video, which should give a better feeling than photos of exactly how everything's laid out, and what it's like.

I'm also working on the cross-country travellogue, starting with a brief 'farewell to the Palazzo' video I shot in my completely empty apartment, moments before Ammy and I hit the road on our journey.

Don't worry, the stories will all be told...

permalinkOh the Guilt - Sunday, Aug 18 2002, at 11:14 am (more blogging, environments, excuses, pittsburgh)

The word of the day is: Assuage.

Specifically, 'Assuage guilt."

I just got back from Columbus, Ohio, from the Buckeye Invitational Chorus competition. Mom did fabulously, as did the other 63 members of the Verdugo Hills Chorus, taking the grand prize for entertainment, boards, and overall. I'm really goad I drove out to see them. They're a really great bunch. It doesn't hurt that it serves to assuage future self-inflicted guilt for not being a good son.

Right now I'm writing to assuage my other guilt, writing on the weblog. It's really frustrating that every minute is occupied with something, most things of which are directly related to making my existence on this distant not-quite-coast habitable, both physically and emotionally. At the same time, I need to post because I want to write the trip up, day by day, and post the pictures (which I know Ammy is waiting for (even though she has other things on her mind at the moment)).

My fear is that you guys, my bit of social live that's ultra-mobile, happy to jump online for the journey, will get bored and drift off. Don't do it! Give me a couple days and real content, real stories, and real insight and imagrey (the kind where I know I'm doing something right because Trisha calls me on a sentence and asks me if I knew that sentence was great when I wrote it). It's all in me, and the strain of it bursting to come out is just even with the strain of improving my physical surroundings, not to mention spending time with Mom, who's here (helping with the aforementioned physical surroundings tasks) until Tuesday morning.

So, I hope I've successfully assuaged my blog-guilt for another day or so, but I'll only know by your comments.

It's amasing how isolation fosters insecurity. Pathetic, huh?

Oh, and my cellphone's dead. No explanation, and so far no resolution, so if you know my Pitts phone, I'll try to remember to plug the phone in when I get offline, and if you want the # and should have it, email me.

Take it easy. It's Sunday!

permalinkThe Plan - Sunday, Aug 11 2002, at 12:24 am (more blogging, excuses, pittsburgh, travel)

Current Location: Chicago

Expected arrival in Pittsburgh: Sunday, around 6pm

Where's the content? Ammy and I are blogwriting on Monday morning. I'll probably be consolidating pictures and text into galleries for several days, including video when my desktop machine arrives via UPS early in the week. Day-by-day installments will be written and posted on Monday and Tuesday, with a more complete and permanent sitelet being assembled soon after.

Suffice to say at present that we saw many, many amazing things, have a lot of great pictures, and will be sharing them all as travel, sleep, and writing allow.

It's been a great week, and we're almost home (err, my new home, that is).

Oh, and that SMS message-to-my-phone thing? The handshaking between Cingular and Voicestream sucks, which in practice means that I've only received three SMS messages, but have received each of them over 12 times. (David: Yep, Georgia's a bit out of the way. Trisha: Good morning!, Dave: Legoland Rushmore? Maybe, but the one at Wall Drug is cool too. And they've got an 8-foot Jackalope, too.)

permalinkThe Sine and Cosine of Blogging - Tuesday, Jul 9 2002, at 4:54 pm (more blogging, excuses, life stuff)

So it's like this:

There are times in my life when I'm busy, and there are times when I'm not. To simplify it, it's like a sine wave, undulating on what (ideally, anyhow) would be a regular cycle.

Then there are times when I blog, and times when I don't blog. That too is on a cycle, but it's usually just out of phase. It makes sense, really: Things happen in my life, then I blog about things happening in my life, sometimes held off a bit because of the ongoing activity of... things going on in my life.

So consider blogging rate to being the inverse integral of living rate. Life is slowing down a bit, which means blogging is starting to pick up. Of course, before the new stories, I'm working through the backlog. So... in coming days look for (in order):

  • Part III of Focus Group Voyeurism
  • The Hiptop review
  • The remaining pieces of the Pittsburgh journey, including
How to find an apartment in Pittsburgh with just a few days
    • Photos of said apartment
  • The Brown Island Trip
  • Preview and planning for the Pittsburgh Pilgrimage with Ammy as my trusty co-pilot.

And of course...

  • qwer
  • randompixel
  • underblog
  • more aoliza
  • many significant changes to fury
  • metacookie
  • and the 200N Blogger Purity Test Survey

permalinkFear of the Blog - Monday, Jun 24 2002, at 11:35 pm (more blogging, excuses)

Y'know, there are people who do the same thing every day without skipping a beat, then one day, inexplicably, an odometer deep in their subconscious ticks over back to zero and they look at that task with new eyes, usually ones filled with a lot of terror-white.

There's the high-rise construction worker who suddenly sees just how thin the razors edge is that he walks upon each day, or the doctor who, in the middle of surgery, suddenly realizes that he really is playing god, and that this is a life in his hands, and is overcome with fears of inadequacy.

With bloggers, we sometimes look at the online life we've been living and suddenly think "wow, my posts are full of shit. I'm transparent and shallow at the same time!" Or worse, we suddenly feel like we can't write another word on the weblog because it's just one more tile on a Jenga tower that's starting to waver each time a pair of eyeballs hit it anyhow.

When this happens, sadly, the writer often has no choice but to, at least for a time, stop blogging altogether, in order to get a better perspective on their own life. Once the 'break' is over, they usually have a better idea of why they blogged in the first place, and whether they should, or even can, come back...

...

But I'm not one of those people. I've just been super busy and have been storing up stories for the last week. I need a little more fibre in my blog, but that's about it.

Worth mentioning, I suppose, are the two instant message conversations immediately following ths post:

Kevin: http://fury.com
Ernie: you are a dork.

and 15 seconds later...

Kevin: http://fury.com
Benjy: heh, dork

I can't remember, outside the last 3 minutes, the last time I was called a dork...

Sorry for the relative silence this weekend. I've had a lot going on, and a lot on my mind (Buffy, scientific revolutions, death, friendship, new beginnings, and more).

Ideally, this should result in more blogging, not less, and it will inthe long run, but I have to finish a few things first. I have a few posts that were almost-finished last week, so I'll touch them up and post 'em later today.

I feel so obligated to post something on Monday mornings, especially if I've been quiet most of the weekend.

Well bah! I've got to shower and catch my train!

Busy this morning, but I'll post some stuff up this afternoon when things ease off a bit.

'Till then, any comments on the amazon banner up top? Love it? Hate it? Lifting it? Ditching Fury over it? :-)

Ho-Ho-Ho!

PS: Props to Ernie who got selected for the 'The Weakest Link' contestant pool for the second time in a row yesterday! He bitches about how they only do celebrity shows now, but I don't think he's realized that with his rising weblogging-star, he might be one of those celebrities. Mmm... A-lister The Weakest Link... permalinkworkin' - Friday, Nov 30 2001, at 9:56 am (more blogging, excuses, fury, metacookie)

Working on Yahoo! stuff all day (imagine...) but I wanted to tease and say that there are a few stories that are mostly finished, and just need some touching up. One will go up tomorrow, the next on Monday. Regular blogging will, as it always does, happen as inspiration strikes.

Also, if the rain is pouring down as expected on Sunday, I'll closet up in my apartment and get some good coding done. I've got a list of changes, including interface refinements (and the 'new to you' color coding) for Fury, and also some work on the oft-delayed other Fury-projects (metacookie and underblog, this week).

And for those of you who don't read on weekends, tomorrow is National AIDS Awareness Day, so be sure to check out Link and Think today, and check back with your favorite participating blogs to read about others experiences with the scourge of our generation.

Other than that, I hope everyone has a grand weekend! The holidays approacheth!

permalinkWhy so quiet? - Thursday, Nov 1 2001, at 10:08 am (more excuses, fury)

So I found a groove once I settled into Yahoo!, writing a lot on the train and posting in the mornings or evenings. Now the train is out of commission for two weeks (They're rebuilding a bridge in the marshes before it collapses) so I've been doing a lot more driving and rushing, and less blogging. Add this to a heavier than usual work schedule, and suddenly things are a little slow in Furytown.

The good news is that the first week is nearly passed. I've got a bunch of stories to tell, including a few dotcom storytimes for those fans. I'll write a bunch on the weekend, and probably sprinkle them through next week, so you don't get bored. After that I'll be back on the train and a happy prolific blogger/coder, so stick around!

permalinkQuick and dirty anti-guilt... - Monday, Oct 8 2001, at 11:15 am (more blogging, excuses, fury)

Okay, so what with installing OS X on my powerbook over the weekend and futzing around with it, Fred's hobbit-riffic birthday party, dim sum and bowling in the city, and general apathy, I didn't write anything in the blog over the weekend. Oh the guilt.

But I am working on a few things (this weekend, Friday on the train, and this morning on the train):

  • Installing PHP and mySQL on the powerbook so I can do database development on the train (read: metacookie, underblog, and purity survey).
  • I'm refining an essay on Powerpoint Do-s and Don'ts, which will be up in a few days. I'm working on a rewrite now.
  • I'm working on a post on 'OS and the soul' and how adoption of an operating system is like the adoption of a child.

Anyhow, I hope you all had great weekends! Got anything interesting to share?

permalinkCompulsive blogging... - Tuesday, Sep 25 2001, at 11:14 pm (more blogging, excuses, fury, i am a geek, software)

Okay, okay. I was about to go to sleep and I see that I haven't posted anything since yesterday afternoon, so I feel compelled to churn up some nugget of insight right now, on command.

I really am going to sleep now though, so this is a quickie.

The Blogger Purity Survey is moving along. I sent out the list of 500+ questions to eight fellow bloggers, and six have already gone through the list, rating each one on its merits for inclusion in the final survey. Now I'm feeding those numbers back into an excel spreadsheet, removing duplicates, fixing grammar, and sorting into 5 or so categories.

The net result is that the BPS will go live for the masses within 7 days.

The other big news is that Mac OS X 10.1 was finally released today (well, 'announced' today, (well, it was 'announced' back in July) for Saturday release) and I can't wait to get it on my powerbook. The big upside for me is that, after installing PHP and mySQL, I'll once again have a development machine without having to mess with stuff via FTP and SSH to Dreamhost when I want to tinker with code and databases. I lost that when I tore down Linux in favor (and I use the term lightly) of Win2K.

And best of all, it'll be portable, so I can actually develop web apps on the train, instead of write untested code that I'll have to debug later. I'm also taking the train tomorrow, which means I'll be able to start catching up on the ever-growing scraps of blogthoughts that is threatening to burst my meager wallet.

Okay, now to sleep.

permalinkCan't blog. Working. BUT: Buffystuff - Saturday, Sep 8 2001, at 12:03 am (more blogging, buffy, excuses, metacookie, tivo, tv)

I'm working on trying to finish Metacookie before Fray Day 5, as well as working on a big ol' headache and some other issues, but I wanted to share an interview with Joss Whedon from this week's Onion (The A/V club part (the part that's not all about fake news)).

The interview was trimmed from 9500 words down to 5500, but the link is to the unedited source, for your reading pleasure. It's quite a long read, so wait till you have time to sit down.

Only a few more weeks 'till things start up again in TV land. I'm thinking about upping my TiVo from 30 hours to 108 by way of a cheap $125 60 gig drive and the glorious TiVo FAQ.

Oh, and I've also let one more show into my television pantheon. I gave Gilmore Girls a try and I'm completely taken with it. I feel like these people have been in my life for ages, though I'm not sure why. But I have a life! Really! Now, to bed, for tomorrow we code.

Christ on a pogo stick I'm stressed. In addition to having a 'get home at 8pm, wake up at 5:45am' schedule with the commute, I have two projects given to me today that need to be done by 9 and 11 am respectively... Ack!

I was planning on driving in tomorrow, but now I need to take the train, just so I'll have the hour to work before I get to work.

No, it's not always like this and I probably shouldn't be venting. This is all just a play for sympathy when you'd otherwise be wondering thy I haven't been posting much.

Dotcom Storytime part 3 will probably be written on the train ride home tomorrow, and I promise you'll get a kick out of it.

permalinkI am a lame weblogger - Sunday, Jun 17 2001, at 11:05 am (more blogging, excuses, fury)

Throughout the week, I typically gather about 5 or 10 cool ideas I want to blog, but never get to because I run out of time, or some other lame excuse. What I often do is write up a quick reminder on fury, but hide the entry, so only I can see it, then go back and use the hidden entries as seeds for the full posts.

Anyhow, that's the case right now too, as I have to take off to go shopping, then play with friends for the evening. Maybe I'll be able to blog tonight, but there's no guarantee.

So, in the interests at seeing the underbelly of fury, and in assauging my guilt at not posting this weekend (gak, I have 24-hour guilt. I wonder how many hours have to pass before the average weblogger feels like their blog is getting stale?) I'm just updating the timestamp of one of my 'notes' posts, and making it visible. This doesn't mean I'm not going to blog about these things. Just consider it a week in (p)review.

permalinkGetting into the groove... - Tuesday, Jun 12 2001, at 11:27 pm (more books, excuses, vocation)

I'm writing a fair bit, but I get home late, and don't transfer from my pilot, or I'm too tired to convert graphics for the blog. I promise this is a short-term thing, and I already have some possible solutions, but I won't leave you in the dark.

Things are great at Yahoo!. I'm having a lot of fun and I think I've found exactly the right place for me to be (and not just because some of the people there read this weblog!).

I'm working on two reviews for the blog, one of POE's album, Haunted, and a related review of her brother's book, "House of Leaves." It'll all make sense soon, but for the moment, I'm enraptured by both.

More soon, really soon.

permalinkAck! Pbht! Omnisky! - Sunday, Jun 10 2001, at 10:12 pm (more dancing, excuses)

Hey y'all! I'm still working out the kinks with Omnisky. I've been writing blog entries on the palm pilot, planning to post them wirelessly. Most of my blogtime is now on the train an hour to and from work each way, so I'm building up stuff there, without an easy synch method at home.

Regular updates are coming again. I'm fulfilling a promise to myself by going to sleep now, but in so doing, I'll be awake enough throughout the week to blog on the train and/or when I get home at night.

Yahoo! is a great ongoing adventure, as is the commute. Last Friday the train got stuck, the engine died (twice) and though I left my house at 6:45am, I didn't get into work until 11:45. Hopefully tomorrow will be more normal, and I'll be at work by 8:45.

Anyhow, Gaskell's was great on Saturday, though very sparsely attended (I've never seen so empty a Gaskell's Ball), but the upside is I got the chance to dance with some new people, and a few very good dancers.

Off to bed for me now. I have a list of interface-related posts that are in process, and most likely I'll have a large block of posts tomorrow evening or Tuesday. Until then, stay tuned, enjoy, read the arcives, and have a great Monday!

permalinkWhat, no updates? - Tuesday, Jun 5 2001, at 7:44 pm (more excuses, fury, movies)

I know posting's been kinda slow these past few days. I've been getting into the groove of work, and haven't been home, staying over at Emily's to keep Kisa company while Emily's away on business, while also making my commute just a little bit shorter.

I (always) have things to write about, but while the site may seem a little slow, I'm doing things (real things, not just ideas) on the back end that will come to fruition before the end of the week, if not earlier.

Meanwhile, let me say that any feelings I had about being a pushover reviewer for lauding Shrek and Moulin Rouge so highly were vanquished when I checked out their respective poll rankings on IMDB.

Ho, hum. Let's see, working on simultaneous redesigns of the AOLiza page and the Cameo site. The funky horizontal layout of AOLiza doesn't scale well now that there are over 40 convos online. I have it all planned out, but I'm still coding the global, cross-site navigation to make everything nice and ultra-modular. Once that's done there are a lot more features I'll be able to put in to the weblog, including a search function for entries, and a bunch of other stuff.

When, you ask? Well, I'm guessing the reworked AOLiza will go up by midnight tonight, and Cameo by this weekend. I should really stop giving cameo estimates, shouldn't I? Peter has chided me for letting redesigns inhibit content publishing, and he's absolutely right. Hey, at least I'm writing in here!

permalinkNo news is good news? - Wednesday, Oct 11 2000, at 4:09 pm (more excuses, randompixel, school)

Sorry for being boring the past couple days, but I've had midterms and stress! Usually my stress makes me write to the weblog more often, but not this time. anyhow, as if to kick me in the pants (like Ammy did today), my horoscope for today reads:

"CANCER (June 21-July 22): What was started and then abandoned will again be brought to life. Focus on creativity, willingness to let go of losing proposition. Return to what you do best."

And so, apparently, I'm back. I dropped of Sol at the developer today, and am gearing up for Cameo again. I'll post the basic web galleries this week, and not wait until I get to finish the design. I'll iterate and fold the design in later. I know most of you just care about the pictures!

Thanks for hanging in there!

permalinkPardon the dust! - Saturday, Oct 7 2000, at 7:50 pm (more excuses, fury, interface)

I'm working on putting in a bunch of new features and altered navigation this weekend. I'll be working on a dev copy, but since I'll also be making changes to the database schema, there might be some unexpected weirdness while I'm building. You have been warned!

Most of the work will be on implementing search and viewing posts by subject, as well as making individual items bookmarkable, and some other, cooler stuff...

You're officially pathetic when you resort to notes like this to get you moving in the morning...

Of course, actually going to sleep before 2am might help too... (By the way, the truly sad part is I'm leaving this on my home computer!)

permalinkAll work and no play? - Thursday, Sep 21 2000, at 12:34 pm (more excuses, sblog)

So most of my posts here for the last several weeks have been technical or net oriented, but it's not usually that way. (Sorry if you've gotten used to it!). Since mid-August I've been expressing my less formal side on SURVIVORblog. The competition's getting tight there though, and today's another voting day, so it's completely possible I'll be outta there tomorrow or next week. Then of course I'll be spouting all my drivel here, instead of just the techie stuff.

permalinkCorrections: Flash once, Flash twice. - Friday, Sep 8 2000, at 11:16 pm (more excuses)

Two quick corrections to previous stories. I'll also add the corrections as ammendums to the stories themselves.

Regarding Flash 5 what-you-print-is-not-what-you-see banners, it's been relayed to me that you specifically have to initiate the print process from the banner to get the supplimentary content (such as by clicking a 'print spec sheet' link or somesuch. This wasn't obvious from the feature page ontheir site, but it makes more sense, and is much nicer.

Similarly, to clarify my comment about Adobe's Photoshop 5.5 site, I didn't mean that Adobe used Macromedia products to create their content, just that they rely on the proliferation of the Flash plug-in to view the site. Sure Adobe may have a 'flash-like' plug in, but they know that the fast majority of visitors will have the macromedia plug in and not theirs. Thus, the irony still holds.

So I came home last Sunday or so and had so many things to talk about that I made a list of bolg entries I needed to make... Then I got busy... I'll see what I can do to make it up...

I wrote a two-page log entry just now on John Searle, Turing Tests, and the Chinese Room problem, before Netscape quit and ate it. Hopefully I'll feel like rewriting it tomorrow afternoon. Sorry about that.

permalinkMorality's a bitch. Taking AOLiza down - Tuesday, Aug 22 2000, at 11:22 am (more aoliza, excuses)

After a lot of thinking, I've decided that though I created AOLiza to see just to see if it could be done, and as a personal experiment, putting the convos online was wrong. It's hard, because my readership has increased fivefold since I put it up, but it's really humor at innocent people's expense. In the words of Homer Simpson, "It's funny because I don't know the guy." (Also from Homer, "It's funny because it's somebody else" and, "It's funny because it's true.")

So, in a nutshell, I'm taking the site down for the time being. Once I get the all-perl version up and running, I'll replace it with a version that lets visitors give it a whirl, and then with the 'AOL-Teen' version and perhaps the "AOL-cybersex' version, for people to play with, but I'm not keen on playng on the unwitting ignorance of strangers to fuel traffic to the site.

It's a shame though, because it was funny as fuck.

Think I'm being a wuss? Think of a compromise? Bribe me for my source code so you can take up where I left off? I'm leaving the Discussion board open.

Also, if you want to be kept appraised if AOLiza goes back up in any fashion, add yourself to the notification list, here:

Some days, I swear my cat gets more done than I do.

Gotta get motivated. Gotta clean, gotta code, gotta share random life details to strangers.

Gotta go!

permalinkStudy hard - Friday, May 12 2000, at 9:11 am (more excuses, school)

Augh! I got my Linguistics grade back from Jason last night, and remarkably I got an A. This is great, (and maybe a little unexpected, though very hoped for) but now I'm absolutely jonesing for more As on the shelf.

It is remotely conceivable that I could pull off straight As (there, I said it) but I would have to kick some serious ass on the exams I have in the next few days. First on the list is Psych 126, Perception, who's final is tomorrow morning (that's right, Saturday) at 8am. To ace the final I'll have to know a lot more about perception that I do right now, and I've got 23 hours to learn it cold.

Basically, that's my way of saying don't expect much in the way of new entries for the next day or so, or that if you do see new entries, you should pity me for my inability to focus on the task at hand.

By the way, for the interested, I'll be putting up my paper on emperical methods of mapping contested concepts within a population once I have time to format it and scan/reproduce the illustrations. I know you're all on the edge of your seats.

(For you first-time readers, don't run away. My posts aren't usually so dry (or self-serving), as you can see below).

See you on the other side!

No time, must type. Paper due at 2.

I'll post it here once I'm all done (and have time to translate it to HTML). Some of you might find it interesting.

5k? Any day now...

Big paper due tomorrow. Too much to do. No time to write.

5k winners announced tomorrow. I didn't come in first, but I still got some accolades (and am in the 99.5th percentile of entries!)

More to come... tomorrow!
